What is Jobs for Youth?

Jobs for Youth resides at the intersection of corporate social responsibility and business need. Our mission is to create pathways to the local business community that enable young people to strengthen their foundation for success. We provide San Francisco businesses with convenient, one-stop access to motivated and trained young people.

Why it matters

Work experience makes a significant and lasting impression on a young person’s life. It:

  • exposes youth to various industries and career paths
  • connects job and classroom learning, reinforcing the relevance of education
  • allows youth to develop skills necessary for life-long success
  • provides additional family income in San Francisco's neighborhoods.

The city of San Francisco invests nearly $10 million each year in youth employment training and work-based learning. Thousands of young workers are ready and able to meet the needs of our local economy, but less than half are given an opportunity to work.
"United Way is a proud supporter of Jobs for Youth. As one of our core community projects, this program is playing a central role in helping young men and women from low-wage families become a part of the economic mainstream. But most important, this real-world experience provides a young person, who wants to work and is motivated to succeed, an opportunity that will pay dividends for a lifetime."

- Anne Wilson, CEO, United Way of the Bay Area
