Margaret Melsh is the founder and Director of Ready to Respond.
Since 1994, Melsh has led the program to national prominence
as a model for the mobilization and deployment of spontaneous
volunteers for disasters. She co-created and led national
institutes on disaster volunteer management for Volunteer
Centers and other audiences. She has trained over 200 communities
nationwide to prepare for and respond to disasters. Melsh
has provided volunteer management coordination or consulting
for a variety of disasters, including Loma Prieta earthquake,
Northridge earthquake, East Bay hills fire, winter storms
in Northern California, and Hurricane Katrina. Melsh was previously
on the staff of The Volunteer Center of Marin. She holds a
bachelor's degree in sociology.
