Week of Caring Volunteers
Join us for Week of Caring 2008

What is Week of Caring?

United Way's Week of Caring is the largest corporate volunteer program in the Bay Area. This week-long event brings thousands of people from dozens of local companies together to volunteer at Bay Area nonprofits.

With generous support from Chevron and in partnership with the Volunteer Centers of the Bay Area, Week of Caring provides a free, easy and unique way for corporations to strengthen their community involvement and increase their status as corporate leader. Week of Caring also provides employees tangible way to see the impact that their partnership with United Way is having in the community.

What kind of volunteer opportunities are available?

Working in conjunction with our nonprofit partners and The Volunteer Centers of the Bay Area, United Way creates a full spectrum of projects that provide fun and engaging opportunities for the volunteers. Projects include:

  • Cleaning and repairing classrooms, playgrounds and parks
  • Packing and preparing food baskets at Bay Area food banks
  • Restoring our beautiful coastal areas
  • Reading to children at day care centers

How are the volunteer opportunities selected?

Together with hundreds of our nonprofits throughout the Bay Area, United Way and the Volunteer Centers of the Bay Area create projects that provide a fun, engaging volunteer experience.

An electeronic project matching system allows volunteers teams to choose from a list of hundreds of local projects to select the project their team would most enjoy. Registered teams will be alerted as soon as project matching is available in July. Please note that projects are available on a first-come, first-serve basis..

When and how can I register my corporate team?

Registration is a simple, three-step process:

  • Register. Mark your calendar to inuire in mid-June.
  • Select a Local Project. The Week of Caring Team will email you when the electronic project matching system is available in July. The team leaders simply log on to select the project that best suit the needs of your organization.
  • Support Your Community. Your team will provide vital support to hundreds of nonprofits that literally could not do it alone. Projects are scheduled in 3-5 hour shifts during the week of September 8-13.

Each team should assign a Team Leader to each project, who will be the point person between your team and the nonprofit your team will help. The Team Leader will also be the main contact between your company and the Week of Caring team.

How does my company benefit?

Week of Caring is designed to provide corporations an opportunity to serve their local communities. Participating in United Way's annual Week of Caring campaign provides your company with:

  • Employee team building and morale
