Tim Lincecum Drives a Bookmobile?

Posted on May 4, 2012, by United Way in Education Partners

What could get kids more excited about reading than Tim and his dog, Cy, driving a Bookmobile into a reading fair and kick-starting a read-a-thon? It's an idea we'd like to make a reality with your vote in the Popchips “Tim Chips In” contest. Tim is willing to donate an afternoon to the winning community project in the contest.

Teaming up with San Francisco Public Library, San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and United Way volunteers, Tim can promote the importance of reading. Childhood early literacy leads to more success in school and higher graduation rates. Inner-city kids are more vulnerable to falling behind in school. Summer reading helps to close the achievement gap and provide a fun way for children to practice their literacy skills over vacation.

The reading fair will take place in the Western Addition - one of San Francisco's most diverse neighborhoods. United Way volunteers will sign kids up for library cards and the citywide summer reading-a-thon, give away books, and support the importance of reading. Tim and Cy will arrive in style in the Bookmobile, creating a memory that kids will never forget!
