UWBA and Youth Jobs+ featured in The Atlantic

August 9, 2018

UWBA’s Larry Berry and Youth Workforce success Emilio Diaz talk about the importance of youth jobs.

In the Bay Area and across the United States, youth are increasingly moving away from 4-year college degrees, just as low-skill, entry-level jobs are rapidly disappearing. With almost half of all youth aged 18 to 24 not in school nationally, it is more important now than ever that we help today’s youth identify their interests, stay in school, and get connected with jobs, jobs training, and internships. That’s just what United Way Bay Area (UWBA) is doing through our Youth Workforce initiative.

We are so honored that our very own Larry Berry, Director of K-12 Programs, and Emilio Diaz, a recent participant in our Youth Workforce efforts, were included in The Atlantic’s article on Why Youth Employment Has Never Been More Crucial for the American Economy.

At United Way Bay Area, we are fighting for the basic needs, education, and financial stability of each and every person in our great region—and that starts with our youth. Thank you to all of our sponsors for their invaluable support and partnership on this important work.
