Emerging Leaders Volunteers Roles

 
Overview:
 
Emerging Leaders is United Way Bay Area’s premiere young professional group. This network of Bay Area professionals is committed to uniting their resources, talents, and time to help others in the fight against poverty. The group hosts numerous networking, volunteer, and advocacy events throughout the year to support United Way’s mission while creating a community of philanthropic peers. Members each make an annual gift of $250+ to United Way’s poverty-fighting work.
 
Membership Benefits:
● Learning about and impacting substantive issues affecting the bay area
● Getting to know and learning from other young accomplished, philanthropic business leaders
● Invitation to United Way Bay Area events
● Develop and practice leadership skills in a professional setting separate from your work
● Recognition in the community as a philanthropic leaders

The Emerging Leaders Group is looking for the following volunteer leaders:

 
Chair:
Job Description:
● Liaison with advisory council, leadership, and board, helps approve new leadership members, helps welcome new EL members, is the “face” of the leadership team, helps approve new leadership members, and is a high-level thought partner.

Time Commitment:
● 2 hours / week

Skills Desired:
● Great communication skills
● Strong commitment to the underlying principles of United Way
● Team player
● Powerpoint Skills
● Previous non-profit leadership experience preferred

Program Manager:
Job Description: Runs meetings, works with UWBA Development Officer and Chair to plan meeting agendas, helps drive projects forward. Takes meeting notes and shares them with the wider team when the meeting is over.
 
Time Commitment:
● Flexible; the program manager should be open to committing anywhere from 1-2 hours per week up to 7-8 hours of work per work. It is highly dependent on the workload of the wider EL team.

Membership Lead: In charge of growing membership, utilizes the EL network to meet with EL prospects, helps with fundraising in the community, helps approve new leadership members, helps welcome new EL members. Strong focus on recruitment and retention of EL members.
 
Time Commitment:
● 1-2 hours / week

● Great networking skills
● Recruiting skills
● Previous fundraising experience highly desired
● Previous non-profit recruiting experience highly desired

Social Impact Manager: Helps secure event sponsorships and grant opportunities if applicable, can also serve as social impact partner to our community impact team. Sits on the events team, but works closely with the Membership Lead and Events Lead.
 
Time Commitment:
● 1-2 hours / week

Event Coordination Lead: Leads the event coordination team. The event coordination lead oversees all aspects of event coordination and helps drive progress forward to help EL host high-quality and engaging events.
 
Time Commitment:
● 1-2 hours / week

● Ability to work with external venues and partners to host events
● Sense of urgency to drive event planning forward

Event Coordination Team Member (2-3): Assist with event planning, attending one extra meeting, decorations, building out the program, guest speakers, etc.
 
Time Commitment:
● 1-2 hours / week

● Strong commitment to underlying mission of United Way

Policy Lead: Serves as a liaison to UWBA’s policy team. Leads policy based volunteer opportunities and the individuals pariticpating.
 
Time Commitment:
● 1-2 hours / week

Skills Desired:
● Strong leadership ability
● Previous non-profit policy experience desired
● Familiar with Bay Area local policy measures, bills, and elected officials
● Strong commitment to underlying mission of United Way
● Strong team player

Marketing Lead: Leads Emerging Leaders marketing team and works to create an enticing EL campaign (leadership search and 365 campaign). Works alongside the Social Media Manager.
 
Time Commitment:
● 1-2 hours / week

● Previous marketing experience highly desired
● Previous non-profit leadership experience highly desired
● Strong leadership ability
● Strong commitment to underlying mission of United Way
● Strong team player

Social Media Manager: In charge of the Emerging Leaders LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, assists our marketing department with social media posts. Adds new members to the LinkedIn page. Additional duties as assigned.

● 1-2 hours / week

● Previous social media experience highly desired
● Previous non-profit leadership experience highly desired
● Strong leadership ability
● Strong commitment to underlying mission of United Way
● Strong team player
● Sense of inclusion – highlights impact of various EL members on social media as necessary
