Summer of Impact 2016
United Way Bay Area is committed to helping the 1 in 4 Bay Area families living in poverty gain access to family support, financial stability programs, job opportunities, and basic needs—but we know we can’t do it alone. Join us for Summer of Impact, our annual volunteer initiative, which takes place each June through September, and together, we can create the greatest impact for Bay Area families!
Sponsorship is the most impactful level of involvement: serve as a sponsor, and we’ll customize a volunteer project or program just for you! You can also choose from a variety of opportunities for brand visibility and public recognition of your work in the community.
Sponsors who make a commitment prior to June 9 will receive tickets to attend Believe, our annual fundraiser and launch to the Summer of Impact Season. Learn more about sponsorship levels available to you.
Ways to Volunteer
As a Summer of Impact sponsor, your company is invited to participate in the following ways:
Job shadowing is a half-day experience that gives volunteers a chance to host clients eager to enter the workplace while giving company staff an opportunity to engage with clients working towards financial sustainability in meaningful ways. Once a date is confirmed, United Way Bay Area’s SparkPoint Centers will promote this opportunity to their clients. Clients will be vetted through an application process to confirm their attendance.
This program is ideal for 10 – 25 clients and 35- 50 volunteers. 6 week notice required.
Youth mock interviews and resume reviews
Summer of Impact is aligned with our Youth Jobs+ initiative, where we support youth in their success through job readiness. Volunteers meet with youth requiring interview and resume prep for mock interviews and one-on-one mentoring. This project can be divided into two parts: mock interviews and resume review. Youth will be invited to attend through our MatchBridge program.
This two hour volunteer opportunity is ideal for 25 youth and 25 volunteers. 4 week notice required.
Out in the community
UWBA works with over 100 community partners throughout the region who share our poverty fighting goals. Corporate volunteers are invited to support our partners by taking part in opportunities such as spending an afternoon playing games with older adults, sorting clothes at a homeless shelter, writing cards for clients, receiving meals and community beautification projects.
This opportunity is great for groups up to 60. Sponsors are encouraged to take part in this volunteer experience during Week of Caring, Sept 12 – 16. 2 week notice required.
Supporting United Way Bay Area clients
United Way Bay Area’s clients thrive on our supportive model which includes you, our volunteers! You can help by collecting school supplies for youth heading back to school or hosting a card drive to encourage clients on the path to financial stability. United Way Bay Area will facilitate with volunteers. 4 week notice required.
