Every year, United Way Bay Area hosts a backpack drive to gather backpacks for youth in our community who cannot afford them or important school supplies that help prepare them for the school year. This year, despite the uncertainty of partial or full school reopenings–we are continuing our efforts of (safely) collecting and distributing backpacks to those who need it.
With your help, we are aiming to donate 300 backpacks with new school supplies to Bay Area youth and schools in need. Keeping in mind public health safety, participation in our drive can all be achieved virtually. Here’s how you can help kids get what they need to start the school year on a brighter note (whether it’s at home or at school partially).
How to get involved:
1) Donate backpacks through Roonga. Choose to purchase pre-filled backpacks, supply kits, or a gift card through this online drive until August 31st.
2) Host a Virtual Backpack Drive. Do you work with a company that wants to get involved? Use our materials to create awareness of the drive and give your employees instructions on how they can participate.
3) Donate other important back-to-school technology like internet hotspots, headsets, and laptops so that youth can be set up for virtual-learning success.
Please contact Senior Director of Community Engagement, Anton Timms at ATimms@uwba.org to learn more and get involved.
