Join UWBA to celebrate the launch of our new Learn, Understand, Act initiative – an awareness and education project that will help community members understand the Bay Area’s housing challenges and play an active role in building solutions. The event includes a special screening of Home is a Hotel.
The event will begin with a reception to learn about the Learn, Understand, Act project followed by a screening of “Home is a Hotel” which introduces us to a portrait of life on the margins in the most expensive city in the country. Filmed over 5 years, this feature-length documentary looks at inequality in San Francisco through the lens of five residents as they fight to stay housed. The film features a mosaic of strangers bound together by their reliance on this system of Single Room Occupancy hotels to keep a roof over their heads and homelessness at bay.
After the event, we’ll hold a Q&A with the documentary’s director, Kevin Wong and producer, Kar Yin Tham, moderated by Karen Nemsick, UWBA Director Housing Justice.
Looking forward to having you part of this discussion and initiative!
