With more than one-in-four of our neighbors living in poverty, we can’t afford to wait; this is an all-hands-on-deck situation. and there are so many ways to help!
Annual Backpack Drive Powered by Volunteers!
2,200 backpacks distributed in partnership with 17 community partners and 10 corporate partners! That's how we take steps closer to dismantling the root causes of poverty in the Bay Area.

Corporate Teams
Does your company have a commitment to community service? We can help you organize a volunteer event on your site or ours, that is just right for your corporate team!
Leverage our Decades of Experience Leading Successful Corporate Volunteer Activities!
We can provide a group volunteer experience in which we order supplies, have them shipped to your facility, coordinate a virtual presentation, and identify those who will benefit from your generosity. Corporations pay for supplies plus a small coordination fee. Activities can include:
Building individual kits of various kinds:
- Hygiene kits
- Cold weather kits
- Emergency kits
- Snack kits
- School supply kits and backpacks

The best part is that your employee team can be secure in the knowledge that their efforts will directly support a neighbor in our community.

Individuals
Just volunteering on your own? Sign up for our mailing list and we’ll let you know about the next volunteer opportunity!
Individuals:
- Help high school students with college essays.
- Help students or adults with resume writing, creating LinkedIn profiles, or mock interviews. (Year-round.)
- Help us to coordinate group volunteer events like building hygiene kits. (Year-round).
- Serve as a Free Tax Help volunteer and help ensure families get the credits they are eligible to receive. Learn more here.
- Become a trained UWBA community liaison, and introduce us to your friends, faith organizations, service clubs, or student groups. The more people who understand the costs and causes of poverty, the more effective our work to defeat it!
- Join some meetings to help us shape our evolving volunteer program.
