United Way Bay Area and Congressman Kevin Mullin invite you to join us for an eye-opening event as we host an exclusive presentation and panel discussion on the real costs of living in the Bay Area—and beyond. Current methods for calculating the federal poverty line fall short, failing to account for the true expenses facing many of our neighbors. This discrepancy leaves numerous families ineligible for necessary support, despite struggling to meet basic needs due to California’s rising cost of living.
To address this issue, Congressman Mullin has introduced the Poverty Line Act, aiming to reform how the federal poverty line is calculated by including actual costs and regional differences. This critical legislation could expand eligibility for safety net programs to millions of families who need assistance but currently do not qualify.
We invite you to come out and engage with community leaders and elected officials, delve into the United Ways of California Real Cost Measure Study findings, and learn more about Congressman Mullin’s transformative Poverty Line Act of 2023. Join us in making a difference—your involvement is vital for building a stronger Bay Area community for everyone.
We are looking forward to seeing you in San Mateo at the Redwood Shores Sobrato Center on June 18th!
