The California legislative session has ended with Governor Gavin Newsom making decisions on nearly 900 bills. This session we saw progress in our ongoing efforts to advance housing justice through legislation.
United Way Bay Area is proud to have supported several crucial bills that have been signed into law, including SB 4, also known as “Yes in God’s Backyard,” which makes it easier for religious institutions and nonprofit colleges to develop affordable housing on their properties. Additionally, SB 567 reinforces the state’s existing tenant protections, and AB 12 limits rental security deposits to just one month’s rent, making housing more accessible by reducing move-in costs.
We are thankful for our dedicated advocates and partners for also pushing to make these anti-poverty measures a reality.
