Dismantling poverty in the Bay Area is a big goal – and we believe it’s possible.
We believe incredible feats can be achieved when we bring people from all walks of life into a safe space and get them talking; that possibilities are endless when we speak with the community rather than about them; that people’s capacity for compassion and generosity will surprise if given the chance, and that we can only become even more innovative when we add voices to the conversation.
This is more than community-based solutions, this is community-led problem-solving and it’s an idea United Way Bay Area has believed so ardently that it permeates every level, every program, and every initiative of the organization. That’s why when we released our strategic plan for the next three years, we knew it needed to center on our commitment to inclusivity.
It also meant we needed to do something we have not done in some time – expand. We took this as a top-down approach, expanding both our Board of Directors and our Advisory Council. Carefully chosen, these leaders represent the vastness of our community in perspective, philosophy, and lived experience; they are committed to helping us “build a strong, vibrant, and healthy Bay Area where neighbors work together to create opportunities for all.”
We are pleased to announce our new Board of Directors has been expanded to 13 members overseeing the fiduciary duties of the organization and making sure we have the necessary resources to advance our mission:
